Google Translate can be a pretty handy tool if you're out in the wild and need a translation. However, if you've ever used it, you'll know that it can easily get things wrong, especially when it's used to break down more complex sentences. The good news is that it appears that Google is working on ways to improve this by providing alternate translation options, providing users with more choices.

The news comes from Android Authority, shedding light on a feature that was discovered in code with version 10.0.36.855137688.3 of Google Translate. So, while we get an early look at something being worked on, there's always the chance that it may never see the light of day when it comes to a formal release.

A new way to translate

According to the news outlet, the Translate app now has the ability to show alternate forms of a translation. Doing so will show three different translations, all with just something a touch different from the original. This provides users with some alternatives that could be closer to what was originally conveyed.

As an example, you'll get translation that might better cater to business use, informal and formal uses. Android Authority shares that it appears that everything looks to be in order, and this could arrive at any time. It's really just a matter of when Google wants to release it. Naturally, we've seen plenty of stuff in code before, and if there's one thing to know, it's that you never know when it will arrive.

Translate has been getting better over time

While Google Translate used to deliver some painful translations, things have gotten much better over time. Instead of translating word for word, Translate can now accurately handle full sentences and paragraphs. Gemini has also been a big help when it comes to more nuanced parts of any language.

Naturally, this will all depend on the training data and the language that you're trying to translate from and to. However, for the most part, the experience is now pretty good. Google Translate still really excels in on-the-fly translations, but it's getting better with the deeper stuff too.
